Another year, another Specialty show under the collective belts of Middlesex Boxer Club. This was our 55th Anniversary. As anyone would tell you this show will be remembered as the wettest one in our memories. But, despite the horrendous weather conditions we prevailed on hosting a very successful show. There was a total entry of 173 dogs which included 11 obedience entries. This year we also offered Jr. Showmanship with 4 entries and non-regular obedience where we had 1 Pre-Novice entry and 2 Veteran entries. Our Parade of Champions and Obedience Titlers had 9 dogs. The Sweepstakes judge Sandy Orr was very impressed with the quality of our Boxers. She judged 45 dogs and bitches. The Best Jr. Puppy and Best in Sweepstakes went to Brush Hill and LL's Star Spangled owned by Ellen Bradley and Lenny Lefman. The Best Sr. Puppy was Sundarby's Kickin-N-Screamin owned by Dawn Darby. Ms. Terry Hundt had the job of judging the Breed Competition. Her WD out of 30 males was Mannix's Ovation To Stetson from the 6-9 class owned by Kate Schoyer & Joan Aller. The RWD was D's Midnight Whiskey Run owned by Cindy DeAmicis. On to the bitches Ms. Hundt found out of 50 bitches Lynbarry's Showtime Sierra owned by Lianne, Barry and Diane Green from Canada. Her RWB was Mannix's Influence owned by Joan Crowley and Kate Schoyer. Veteran dog went to CH. Shadow's Nairobi, owned by Pamela Shaw-George and Veteran bitch was won by Carol Josephson's and Pat Gelinas' CH. Sweetbriar Apple Blossom Time. The BOB competition was very stiff this year. Out of 10 specials Mrs. Jack Bilhardt's and B. Bachman's and S.Tenenbaum's fawn dog CH. Capri's Woods End Spellcaster won the trophy. Our Jr. Showmanship winner was the young Paige Day who also is a talented Flute player. She started off our day by playing The Star Spangled Banner on her Flute. In the Obedience ring Sharon Crossman was able to qualify 2 of our Boxers. Wilmor's When In Rome Kan-To gathered 194 1/2 points from Novice B owned by Jadwiga Cuttita. From Open Class B came our 2nd qualifier Wilmor's Wonder with 191 1/2 points, owned by Jadwiga Cuttita. First Place in Pre-Novice was CH.Kalimar's Dare To Dream owned by Richard and Donna Martinelli with a score of 175 1/2. The Veteran Obedience 1st place dog was CH. Sirocco's Quiet Peacemaker CDX owned by Laurie LaValley with a score of 180. Since we believe there is more to a dog show than just winning, the Middlesex Boxer Club sponsored a wonderful program on Canine Reproduction by Dr. Gail Schmieder Friday afternoon. This program was free of charge and refreshments were also served. We hoped that many people would take the opportunity to learn more about the cutting edge techniques in breeding our dogs. Dr. Schmieder spoke at length about the value of Trans cervical Insemination, Surgical Implants of Semen, Artificial Insemination, Progesterone Testing, the importance of breed specific health testing. Everyone who attended had their questions answered. It is important to say that Dr. Schmieder donated her fee to a program near and dear to her. It is called NEADS aka National Education for Assistance Dog Services. This organization provides Service dogs for people who are deaf, in wheelchairs, and dogs that help in classrooms to assist special educators who work with physically, mentally or emotionally disable children. Sat. afternoon following the conclusion of the RIBC judging, members and friends moved into high gear with the annual Middlesex Covered Dish Supper followed with Allison Maney giving out 30 achievement plaques, four of them Dam of Merit plaques leading into the Blind Auction led by Auctioneer extraordinaire Sam Bitler. There were many creative items donated to the auction as well as some high priced open bid items. Particular thanks to Virginia Perry Gardner for her annual jewelry donation, to Sam Bitler for his jewelry box and to Rob Helm for an expensive bottle from his primo wine collection and Win Bitler for her hand quilted Boxer wall hanging. I want to take this opportunity to thank the Middlesex members who helped to set up on Thursday, run our show in Friday and clean up on Sunday. We also need to thank the kitchen staff made up of Tom Foley and Dan Maney, with assistance from Rick Fike, Jeff Ontell and Nate Day. |
